The Path to Inner Peace

Path to Peace

Cortney struggled with severe anxiety that manifested as debilitating insomnia.  For over a year, the insomnia caused major implications for her work, personal life and even her health.  After many desperate attempts to find peace, including consulting sleep specialists, taking medications and home remedies, she finally discovered the root cause: her fear-filled mind.

After a lot of trial and error, Cortney discovered powerful tools and solutions that have helped her renew her mind to find peace.

This program will help attendees understand why we get stressed and what happens in our brains and bodies when fear sets in.  It will also give participants practical tools and exercises to empower them to better manage or even break free from their anxiety and stress or have compassion and support for others who are battling it.

Key Takeaways:

  • Know your body’s stress language: distinguish between positive and toxic stress

  • Take home a lifestyle plan to promote better life balance

  • Gain practical tools to manage stress in the most productive way

Empower Your Future-Embrace Your Story

Your Future, Your Responsibility

Our lives are not divided into past- present- future. Our stories are simply unfolding. Yet many of us desire to leave the past behind us.

"Don't look back, you're not going that way" is the worst advice we can give or take.  In this talk Cortney will show you how embracing her ENTIRE story has made her the dynamic, successful, authentic person she is today.

Cortney shares her story of resilience  in the face of childhood trauma to demonstrate that adversity is merely a fact of life and doesn’t have to prevent us from living a fulfilling and meaningful life. She provides participants with a three step process to embrace their story and take responsibility for their future.  Each participant will be inspired to change not only their perspective, but also the world around them by having compassion for people they encounter everyday.

Key Takeaways:

  • We CAN transform our pain into purpose

  • We CAN manage stress rather than let stress manage us

  • We CAN design a life we love, even if we don’t love every moment we’ve gone through

  • There are some blessings, lessons and transformations only adversity can provide

  • Our stories are our strength

Dysfunction Junction

Overcoming Dysfunction Junction:

Get Out of Your Own Way for GOOD!

Prior to an epiphany at the age of 26 that prompted her healing journey, Cortney was surrounded by dysfunction.  Even though she had been removed from the chaos that was her childhood for several years, she was still living in survival mode.  Feelings of bitterness, resentment and self-pity regarding the cards she was dealt prompted her to live on edge, get defensive and take out her pain on others.

As part of her healing journey, she discovered that much of the dysfunction she was surrounded by after her childhood was actually a result of self-sabotaging behaviors and subconscious psychological patterns that she had no idea she could change.  Fortunately, identifying these habits was the first step towards breaking them and choosing new life-giving and self-loving behaviors instead. It didn’t take long before her old self was unrecognizable to her and everyone around her.

Cortney inspires participants to take responsibility for their choices and behaviors. She will prompt inner dialogue to help people identify where the dysfunctional thoughts and actions originated.  This session will inspire a self-awareness breakthrough for each participant and empower them not only to recognize and address the root cause of their unhealthy habits and behaviors, but give them the tools to change.

Key Takeaways:

  • Crush your limiting beliefs

  • Find inspiring choices you hadn’t considered before

  • Develop confidence that you CAN create your life

  • Change unhealthy habits that undermine your goals

  • Create your own self care swag bag

Building Strong Brains

The future prosperity of any society depends on its ability to foster the health and well-being of the next generation. When Tennessee invests wisely in children and families, the next generation will pay that back through a lifetime of productivity and responsible citizenship. Early experiences literally shape how the brain gets built, establishing either a sturdy or a fragile foundation for all of the development and behavior that follows. A strong foundation in the early years increases the probability of positive outcomes. This presentation will explore how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) harm the developing brains and bodies of children compromising the foundation for lifelong health. The ACE research has resulted in child abuse and neglect being acknowledged as a major public health problem and a leading cause of early death.  From academic failure to alcoholism, from crime to cancer, presence of ACEs compromise the safety, tax dollars and quality of life for all Tennesseans. This presentation will also identify community-based strategies to prevent and mitigate ACEs and build resilience. Understanding the ACE research deepens professional knowledge across sectors and creates a common language for collectively addressing community challenges.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand how brain architecture is established early in life and supports lifelong learning, behavior, and health.

  • Describe the role of safe, caring relationships and “serve and return” interactions in shaping brain architecture.

  • Understand the impact of toxic stress on neurodevelopment and biological functioning across the lifespan.

  • Introduce the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) research and related poor social, emotional and physical health outcomes.

  • Recognize the dynamic micro and macro approaches to building resilience in children and communities to support positive outcomes to benefit citizens’ shared prosperity.

  • Identify innovative, evolving public health strategies to improve population health.
